Mixed results for 4 U12 teams

Bridgefield was a hive of activity last Saturday 16th March with the U12 Footballers field4 teams all at home. With the bank holiday weekend and players unavailable due to sickness and a birthday party we were hard pushed to fill the panels, in the end we filled all panels except for the A team with 6 boys who had just finished a B match having to go straight in to the A line up.

This was obviously unsatisfactory in terms of preparation and focus and it showed on the pitch.
First up were our D team who had very tough opposition in the form of Na Fianna’s C team. Na Fianna had a number of very strong players and they blitzed us first half. We more than held our own in the second period however. It would be great to see more of this team coming training on a regular basis as there are some lovely, committed footballers in this squad who are worthy of promotion.
The B and C team played at the same time. Our C team has been developing nicely and is coming together as a unit. Nearly all the players are hard workers in training and committed on the field of play. They were up against a decent Round Towers Lusk team who had an excellent spine and while the opening exchanges were close we eventually got on top and ran out comfortable enough winners by 7-11 to 3-2.
The B team were up against a Trinity Gaels U12 team which had put in a string of fine performance so far in the league but on the day they were no match for our team which produced a scintillating brand of football. Moving the ball up and down the pitch, holding possession and giving at the optimum time all 13 players gave an exhibition which ended in an 11-03 to 0-4 win.
The final match of a long morning was the U12A’s in action against a strong Na Fianna outfit. With a number of regulars missing for various reasons and with 6 players coming straight in to the huddle directly after the B match whistle it was no surprise that we started slowly and were a goal and a point down in just a couple of minutes. Indeed at half time, having produced a poor performance by this teams standards we remained those 4 points down. We got going a bit better in the second half and managed to get our noses in front but a combination of tiredness and inability to deal with the physicality of the opposition meant that we conceded a late equalising point. Well done and thanks to those who played the 2 matches, a number of players stuck their hands up for promotion to the A squad and while we may not have won we found out that we have a big squad where competition for places is very strong.
