Seniors back on winning trail - all adult teams win

The lads came our firing on all cylinders today with a much more convincing performance against local rivals Fingal Ravens. All adult teams had good wins, great start to the season.

AFL 1   Fingal Ravens 0-13 St. Sylvester’s 2-11

AFL 4   St. Sylvester’s 5-10 Inisfails 0-07

AFL 7   St. Sylvester’s 4-04 Kilmacud Crokes 0-10

AFL 10N St. Sylvester’s 3-12 Carristown 0-03

MHL 3   St. Sylvester’s 5-11 Clontarf 4-04.

I heard Fionn Carney scored 4-7 in this game - after a great dispaly the previous evening for the Dublin minor footballers - should Fionn be on both county minor teams??

St Sylvesters 2-11 Fingal Ravens 0-13

Just what we needed with the championship coming in two weeks, a more direct display at Ravens lovely grounds in Rolestown.

The smaller field seemed to suit our style of building from the back but playing deep to the full line of Bennis (not Brosnan, Freudian slip), Relihan and Clarke (scored 1-6 I think) - Airy Cleere scored one of the goals and a great pass from Dave Galvin to Clarke gave us the other, Ravens got back to two points and, with a big crowd shouting them on, had a free to bring it to one with a minute or so to play but, unfortunately for them, they missed and a couple of slick breaks gave us two smart points to close out a good win.

John Coughlan looked sharpe at centre forward, Shane O'Connor and Ross Hazley coped well with very big opposition in the middle, Stephen Finnegan in goal and the fullback line made no mistakes and Galvin, Sexton and Collie McIntyre kept it tight.

Fingal RavensBrian asked me to mention two things in particular - he himself had to run the line as Syls support was very late arriving - this is an important aspect of the game, linesman and umpire - many clubs, even at juvenile, are manning all points around the field and looking after their interests. Also worth noting the fine support Ravens had, at €3 a head - well done to them, it was a real home game, the way it should be.

I was also thinking of starting a rumour about Glen O'Neill - umpire, linesman!!
