Seniors lose a game we should(could) have won against OP/ER

It was a bit of a Jekyl and Hyde display from Syls against the star studded Oliver Plunkets Eoghan Ruadh. In a way we might be pleased with the overall display . . in other ways we were very disappointed to lose a game where we came on strong and then didn't finish the job.

AFL1 OP/ER 2-13 St Sylvesters 1-10

Couple of points each then Plunkets took us apart for about 15 minutes and went into a 1-7 to 0-2 lead - why not, I counted at least 7 players who played county championship last week and ours were sitting out for tomorrow. A few slick passages brought a goal (was it Ross?), a couple of points and we were only 3 adrift at the break.

We fell back 4 or five more before we woke up and played the best football I have seen from this team. Jockser was at full forward and we let the ball in quicker and longer - John scored three great points, intermixed with three from a ressurgent Eoin Bennis (showing some of his form from earlier last year). Plunkets brought in a big guy to double team Jockser and, for some unknown reason we slowed the ball down around the middle and that was enough to let OP off the rack. The superb Bernard Brogan got a second goal and that was that.

Ross Hazely had a great game in the middle against Ross McConnell and Anthony Moyles, Brian Sexton and Airy Cleere were superb at the back, Jockser, Bennis and Aido got the scores. Nothing to feel bad about, pity we didn't win. John Coughlan looked unstopable in the forward line - Gilroy can't ignore him - I hear rumours about Beano, he looked the part.
