Seniors secure semi final spot

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-18 Na Fianna 0-13 I think we finish top after a fine win over Na Fianna and qualify for Div1 semi final for the third year in a row.. We struggled up the hill and into the wind in the first half and Fianna looked the better team at 0-10 to 0-5 at the break. The second half was a different story, however. Ross (couple of great catches) and John came much more into the game in the middle, the half line of Eoin Fanning, Russy Cleere and Colm Hanratty won all the breaks, Niall Coughlan gave the full line a bit of focus and Darren (even though he pointed a penno) and Micháel were lethal from open play.

Defensively we struggled with Tom Brady (until Dave Galvin went on him) and Senan Connell who looked sprightly, for a while but eventually we shored up the backline completely and Fianna never really threatened us in the second half.

Nice to see Shane O'Connor back from a long injury.

Interesting that we have conceded the lowest score in Div1. Great credit to Beano, Airy, Brian, Rob, Cian, Barry, Galvo, Gavin, Fionn, Adam for consistent level of performance over the whole year.

Well done to Gabrial and his team - top of the table two years in a row - again, I say, we won the League, fair and square. Good luck in the playoffs lads but we shouldn't have to play them. I'm old fashioned, I know!
