St Sylvester’s GAA club notes August 19th

Out top two adult football teams playing in divisions, one, and three are both leading their league tables and the junior A team moved up to joint leaders in division six with a win on Saturday. With just a few games left to play we are in for some exciting matches over the coming weeks. The individual management teams deserve great praise for their effort, commitment and cooperation in pooling resources.

The seniors lost on Saturday to Ballymun on a score of 0-11 to 1-17 but still retain the top spot. A very impressive Ballymun got off to a great start and we were always chasing the game. St Brigit’s are second in the table on the same points with a game in hand. We have two games left to play. First up is an away fixture with Ballyboden on Saturday August 31st and then home to Lucan Sarsfields on Saturday September 14th.

The intermediate football team are also heading the league table on score difference. It is very tight at the top here with three teams on the same points. They had another convincing victory over Clann Na Gael on Saturday night in Broomfield on a score of 3-13 to 0-5. This margin of victory could be very important in deciding the eventual winners. They have two games left. They play St Brigit’s away on Saturday August 31st at 18.00. Their last match is the crucial top of the table clash with second placed Naomh Barrog at home in Broomfield on Saturday September 14th also at 18.00.

The junior A football team are joint leaders in their league after defeating Civil Service by 10 points to 5 points. They have four games left to play including a home match against league leaders St Vincent’s.

The junior B football team had a number of very narrow defeats losing by a point to Erin’s Isle and by a goal to Parnells and Ballyboughal. They have five games left to play and should move up the table.

Niamh Harney, Ciara Lynch and the Dublin Minors lost out to Galway in a heart breaking finish with Galway getting a very late goal, six minutes into extra time to claim victory.
