Stacey Cup Winners

The pictures tell the story . . . the Junior A team took hom ethe Stacey Cup tonight winning against Templeogue Synge St out at Dolphin Park . . . A truly battling performance was the key to our victory over a very strong Templeogue Synge Street team. In a low scoring encounter, every score mattered and we came up trumps at the death to win by a single point.

We got a good start and led for most of the game but credit to TSS, they dug deep in the second half and led with ten minutes to go. But this young team kept their nerve and work ethic and got the last two scores to win the cup. We fielded without many regulars and the young lads who came in did brilliantly and will have learnt much from such a tough game which was played at championship pace throughout.

Minor goalkeeper, Michael Shields had another very impressive game. Our defence led by Graham Morris at fullback and Kevin O'Flynn at centre back was very strong with Darragh Smeaton, Niall Kelly, Alan Morris and Conor Ryan all making massive contribution. Our midfield pairing of Peter O'Byrne and Kev Lynott were awesome against much bigger opponents (not that our lads are small). Up front everyone contributed big time with Killian O'Flynn, Keith Syle, Ciaran Hickey, Paul Connolly, Barry Cowley, Aaron Carney, Dylan Redmond and Mark Hazley all putting in a huge shift.

It's not good for the nerves to win by one but it sure makes it more enjoyable afterwards. Well done lads!!
