Successful trip south for U15s and U16s - many thanks to Nemo Rangers

I am glad to report that our U15 and U16 football teams returned safe and well from last weekend’s trip to Nemo Rangers in Cork. The quality displayed in both matches was of a high standard and resulted in a victory for both Sylvester’s. teams.

The U16 team took to the field first (assisted with a number of U15 players) and with a strong wind advantage in the first half Nemo raced to a 1 – 8 to 0 – 2 half time lead. The mentors made a number of changes and positional switches at the break and with wind assistance Syls produced an excellent second half performance which ultimately saw them snatch victory by a score line of 4 – 7 to 3 – 8. The most notable switch made was Stephen Keoghs move to full forward where he scored two goals and had a strong hand in the remaining two.

Our U/15 Team played the first half assisted by the elements and came in at the interval with a slender one point lead. Similar to the U/16 team they produced a magnificent second half performance against a strong gale to run out comfortable winners of 5 – 8 to 2 – 3. All six backs led by Rory Boland dominated, while Stephen Cunningham, Dave Sexton and Mark Hazley lead the line in attack.

The best performance of the day went to the officials and mentors of Nemo Rangers (in particular Pat Kelleher and Tom Potts) for the welcome and hospitality displayed from the time we arrived in the car park of their very impressive facilities, to the time of our departure (2 shandys later). I would sincerely like to thank Pat, Tom and all involved in Nemo for their kind generosity last Saturday and they have kindly extended an invitation to any Juvenile teams in Sylvester’s who would like to travel south.

Both teams stayed in Jury’s Inn that evening and sampled the ‘Saturday Night Atmosphere’ on offer in Cork City. Well done to the lads both on and off the pitch, you represented the club in impeccable fashion.
