Syls lose the shootout for promotion

It couldn't have been tighter. We drew after extra time two weeks and it went to the last kick of the game last night at the lovely Garristown ground when a free from Dwyer's no 9, maybe his sixth, was enough to see them promoted to AFL3 next year.

St Sylvesters 1-8 O'Dwyers 1-9

After a slow start we took control with a couple of nice points from Micháel and a great goal from Niall Coughlan before leading at the break by 1-2 to 0-4. A few early points in the second half but then went quiet for a while and ended up training by 4. Micháel McCarthy and Coughlan again to the rescue with immaculate free taking from well out the field brought us back level, only for Dwyers to snatch it with the last free of the game.

Niall Coughlan had a great game, as had our whole back line for most of the game. Up front, Dwyers got in some great blocks and made it very difficult for our forwards.

It's a pity we didn't go up as we have a lot of young talent in this team but no doubt we will do it this season. Best of luck to O'Dwyers in Division 3 - they certainly worked hard for their success.
