We travelled to Ballyboden on Wednesday 18th May to take part in the Dublin Community Games Hurling which is played at U11 level. We travelled with confidence having a strong team who have trained well over the last weeks however due to a combination of things we just didn’t have the luck on the night. The 15 a side matches were played on narrow all weather pitches which mean our inclinations to pick and hurl cost us in our opening game. We started against the local team Knocklyon who are backboned by Ballyboden, we led for most of the game but were defeated by a late, late goal. This was a sickening blow for many of the players who lost out to the same team last week in football.

While we were beaten we more than matched the opposition and in Tom Hogan, Sean Guiden and goalkeeper Liam Foley we had the 3 best players on the pitch. Anthony Cox scored 2 wonderful points, Daragh McLoughney, Zak Woods-Oliver, Conor Hoyne and Eoghan Buckley battled hard and our defence of Jack Boyne,  David O’Halloran, Jack Larkin, Daire de Burca and Euan Farquarson was strong throughout. John Gleeson, Liam Shalloe and David Deneher hurled lots of ball but it wasn’t to be and for the second week running, despite giving Knocklyon their hardest game, we had to settle for the 3rd place play off.

For the match against Round Towers we started all our subs from the first game including 3 U10s in the full forward line who had 4 goals on the scoreboard within a couple of minutes, well done to Timmy O’Connor, Ronan Furlong and Matthew Brenner. Tom Bennett showed a lot of the fighting spirit and huge skill and in the end we ran out easy winners. Sean Guiden once again gave a masterclass at half back. We had to settle for the bronze medal and lots of ifs and buts. Thanks to all who travelled, we had great support.
