Syls U9 Hurlers win at Naomh OP/E

St Sylvesters U9 hurlers kept up their winning ways in a hard fought game versus Naomh OP/ER on Saturday. The early morning throw-in probably contributed to the lads slow start and while the standard of hurling was not up to their previous displays they gradually worked their way into the games.

In the first game it was end to end stuff for the first half but with defences on top there were few clear cut chances. Syls got on top in the second half and driven forward by the long distance striking of Killian Bousfield we camped on the edge of the opposition square. Joaquin Shinbach had a stormer at midfield but throughout the team the work rate, tackling and blocking never gave  Naomh OP/ER time to get in to their stride. With only a few minutes left on the clock Euan Farquarson punced on the lose ball to grab what turned out to be the winning goal.

Team: Killian Bousfield, Daniel Stone, Craig McGrattan, Billy Lawlor, Aaron Lambe-Callaghan, Euan Farquarson, Sean Curran, Conor Duffy, Conor O’Brien, Joaquin Shinbach, Matthew Brenner

In the second match, after connceding an early goal the exchanges were tough before Tom Bennett pounced for an equaliser just before half time. A switch at half time brought man of the match Timmy O'Connor, who had a fine performance in goals in the first half out to midfield where he began to dominate the game. Overall a better second half performance saw St Syls with the majority of the possession but scores were hard to come by until a long range effort by Conor Hoyne found its way to the net. Well done to all.
