They think its all over.....it is not, its a game of two halves.

St Sylvesters U13B 4-5, St Finians U13B 4-4 On Sat 23rd Feb 2013 I witnessed one of the best comebacks ever, up there with Liverpool v AC Milan in the 2005 champions final or Dublin v Longford in the 2008 O'Byrne cup final (Dublin scoring two goals in the last few mins of play), well that's the special game we had on Sat.

There was no luck involved in this epic comeback just as Sir Alex Ferguson would say "Never give up, never stop and it's never over 'till the final whistle." Syls had this and much more Sir Alex!! They also had self belief, courage, heart and believing that they are champions and with this in their minds and their hearts will be a force in the future.

The game started fast and both teams were playing some fine attractive football, but both teams were cancelling each other out. As with 15 minutes in there was no score. Some close chances but none taken by either side. Syls goalkeeper, Fiachra "The Mighty" Nolan making great saves and distributing the ball in great fashion for the backs John "The Wizz" Clifford, Jamie "Steady Hand" Costello, Cathal "As Cool As You Like It" Rainey, Paul "The Shark" Finn, Jack "The Tower" Larkin and Barry "The Blade" Markey were getting the ball into mid-field, where Sean "The Vice" Lonergan and Matthew "The Bulldozer" Norris were having a good battle with St Finians mid-field and getting the ball up to Sam "The Hammer" Murphy, Campbell "The Battler" Gibson, Sam "Lion Heart" Barlow, Jeff "The Thunder" Scollard, Adam "Hotshot" Reilly, Killian "The Hulk" Jennings, Conor "The Crusher" Tracey, Jack "The Dude" Hennessy, Mark "The Terrier" Mitchel but a break through had to come and it did from St Finians with a well taken point and this gave them a push for more as another point followed quickly. It was up and down the park with the ball breaking between the two teams Finians went and took a shot which took a deflection and looped over the Syls goalkeeper scored a goal. Finians went on and scored another two well taken goals that no keeper could have saved and just before half time Sean Lonergan wearing the Syls crest on his heart threw himself into a tackle to stop an attack by Finians, Sean got winded so Campbell moved into midfield and Sean upto the forward line.It turned out to be a management master move Half time came.

Even with the score 0-0 to 3-2, Syls were playing the better ball. An inspirational speech from the management team could see the fire in the Syls players, The phoenix had awoke and The Phoenix had arisen. Syls came out in the second half like a steam train, well taken points in quick succession from Sean L, Adam R and Matthew N we knew something special was on the cards Finians were on the back foot. An attack by Finians was broken down by Syls defence and Jack H sent a perfect pass to Sean L who shrugged off 3 tackles to have a one on one with Finians goalkeeper and sent the ball home into the back of the net now 1-3 to 3-2. Conor T got a breaking ball and sent it into Mark M (top goal scorer last year!) whos shot was well saved, but the breaking ball came out to Adam R who banged it into the back of the net 2-3 to 3-2. Finians kickout landed to Paul F whos one to with Jack L sent it to Sean L who took a 20 yard power shot and BOOM goal!! 3-3 to 3-2. More up and down the park and Finians got 2 quick points with some nice shooting. 3-3 to 3-4. With the two Sams making lots of running and Cillian making problems for the Finians backs, meant Cathal could feel the ball go on a run with some great passing out of defence from Jamie, Fiachra and John. Cathal found himself in front of goal and there was only one place this was going..... Goal!! 4-3 to 3-4. But Finians answered back with a goal 4-3 to 4-4. With 3 minutes to go Matthew plucked the ball out of the air passed it to Jack Larkin and as cool as you like it put it over the bar from 25 yards. 4-4 to 4-4. Finians got the ball to midfield where Barry and Conor broke the attack, got the ball to Jeff who passed to Sam Barlow who skipped by one, who skipped by two kick passed to Sean who was running into space and from a tight angle took a shot for a point, time stood still for a moment while all watched the flight of the ball and well we all know it went straight between the posts. 4-5 to 4-4. A final kick out for Finians, Syls won the ball and the ref blew it up!

With this belief in our players the future is bright and the future is Syls.
