SFC Rd2 St Sylvesters 3-5 St Oliver Plunkets Eoghan Ruadh 1-13 after extra time. An enthralling game from start to finish, Syls were caught at the post both in normal time and in extra time after leading from the start. No doubt the lads were a little shell shocked after the game but I think we will take a leaf from the Dubs book this year and use it to our advantage. A bit like the Dubs last Sunday, when we led going into the last five minutes we needed the extra point but didn't get it while Plunkets found the extra edge to steal it. As Brendan said afterwards, we had a good shout at the game, good Syls crowd, lots of he girls and juvenile players, as it should be. Well done to all and we're not dead yet - back door in two weeks, Inter Championship Saturday night, Ladies Final next Wednesday - LETS SHOW UP IN NUMBERS

We started well, smashing early goal by Darren Clark from a swift passing movement. A second goal from a penalty by Aiden was immediately cancelled by a penalty for Plunkets after a mistake in our backline. We stayed at it and another smashing goal by Russel Cleere who was having his best game for Syls in years, had us 3-1 to 1-4 at the break.

The second half was a humdinger, even if the scoring was low, with Rob Wallace making some fantastic saves, Barry Ryan having the game of his life on Everyones Footballer of the Year, Bernard Brogan, Gary Sweeney missing the left post by inches at the other end, Jude Sullivan shipping some seriously big hits around the middle, Campers injecting more running in our half line and hard to find fault with any display (our or theirs). Full time was 3-3 to 1-9, Plunkets catching us on the break with some nice points.

Extra time saw us two points up, pegged back to one at the break, a great point from Moyles and an unfortunate free well executed by Nesty Smith put them ahead. Brian McGurk won a free for us on the 50 on the sideline but it was just too far for Darren to level it (our lefties Aiden and Jude were off the field at the end) with pretty much the last kick.

This was the real deal, both sides out on their feet at the end, well done to both sides and hopefully we can rise to the next challenge.

John Murphy got a serious injury early on, hope he's ok.
