U10 hurlers defeat Isles at Finglas

The U10 hurlers travelled to FIngas on saturday morning to take on Erins Isle. We fielded two teams and both came out on top in their encounters. In the b match we started fast with both our midfielders, Tom Bennett and Aaron Lambe Callaghan, landing points from '65s. Soon after Conor Duffy got the first of his brace of goals when he swivelled and shot to the net following great work from Stephen Brady.

After half time Isles upped their tempo but great defending from Krishna Joyce and Craig held them at bay. A Conor O'Brien hat trick, a goal from Matthew Brenner (who also got a skill point for a great hook) and a few trademark long range howitzers from Killian Bousfield helped us to a convincing win. A great team performance with our striking much improved. Well done to all.

The whole team combined to put in a dominant performance from start to finish with some great ground hurling used to overcome the bumpy conditions on the Finglas pitch. Leading the way in this regard throughout was Euan Farquarson with his usual fearless approach to winning the ball. It took a while for the scores to come initially until the first of Ronan Furlong’s goals, quickly followed by a Conor Hoyne point ‘loosened’ the floodgates and a steady stream of scores followed for the rest of the first half.  At the other end, when Erin’s Isle did attack, they found Daragh McLoughney and Daire DeBurca too determined to let anything pass them. Sean Guiden thus had a quite time when in goal but he saw a lot of ball in the second half and helped himself to a few good scores. Our strong defence continued in the second half when David Deneher moved back, ably supported by Jack Boyne who was particularly prominent during the whole match, the highlight being a super overhead catch, under pressure, in the second half.
