Our U11 footballers were invited to enter the inaugural Seamus Reilly Tournament organised by Dunshaughlin GAA which took place last Saturday evening. The tournament was organised in memory of the late Seamus Reilly, a former teacher in St Davids, Artane mentor to Dunshaughlin U11s and friend of Niall Guiden.

20 players were selected to represent the panel and they played 3 20 minute a side matches. The first two games were against Parnells of Dublin and Carnacross of Meath, both of which we won. The third game was against the local side who had also won both their games so it would be a winner takes all final.

We started slowly even though we had a strong wind behind us, forgetting all the basics that got us to the playoff and we ended the half a point behind 0-2 to 1-0. The second half was an altogether different affair however. Our half backs Sean Gibson, Euan Farquarson, Tom Bennett and Jack Boyne locked down the premium space, Sean Guiden and Darragh McLoughney started dominating in a very physical midfield with our half forward line supporting, especially Eoghan Buckley and Danny Taafe who both constantly won hard ball. With Denis Smith and David Deneher creating havoc in the full forward line we started strongly with 2 quick goals. Adding another 1-1 as the half wore on things looked good for us. But Dunshaughlin are a proud team and were highly motivated and in the last 5 minutes threw everything at us. That we restricted them to scoring 1-2 was only down to the bravery and strength of Sam McCormack in goal and Aaron Coleman at full back who along with the rest of his defenders threw themselves in to every block and tackle.

The final whistle had Syls on top by a score of 3-3 to 2-2.

Thanks to the Reilly Family and Dunshaughlin GAA for inviting us and hosting the tournament we hope to have you down to Malahide soon.
