U12 down to earth with a bang

Under 12 Football 12 Mar 2011 St. Sylvesters 1-4 St.Vincents 3-13 After their rousing victory against Raheny the previous week, Syls U12A came down to earth with a bang at Bridgefield last Saturday. The boys came up against a very well drilled and determined St. Vincents team who moved into top gear from the throw in.

The first half of this encounter was played almost exclusively in Syls’ half of the field as the Vinnies boys were first to every breaking ball. Syls were outplayed in every department as Vinnies made the most of their monopoly on possession to rack up the scores in the first period. A shell shocked Syls group trooped off at half time trailing by 2-9 to 1-1.

Brian Barnes and his team of mentors had some work to do during the break and their words of advice prompted a much improved second half performance. Luke Hughes and Bryan Murray took more control of the midfield area, stemming the tides of attack from the visitors and driving forward at every opportunity. Syls struggled to take their scores when chances presented themselves and the Vincents boys were only too happy to take advantage in their less frequent forays into the Syls danger area. But the second half rally was too little too late as the Malahide boys eventually went down by 1-4 to 3-13 at the final whistle.
