U12 Football Review

Despite missing a number of regulars our U12 footballers fielded 4 teams on Saturday with a total of 53 players pulling on the Syls jersey in the penultimate round of league games. Our A footballers were missing 6 starters from their previous game and going up against the unbeaten league leaders, St Vincents, that proved too much of a hurdle to climb. Vincents ran out handy winners and so we must settle for second place again this year in Division 1.

The B footballers have had a great season, being close to the top of Division 3 for most of the year. Unfortunately with a number of players moving up to the A team this weekend they were caught by a strong Round Towers A team. Despite this the B’s have had a good year and will finish in the top 3 or 4 of Division 3.

The C team were also weakened but managed to grind out a hard earned victory over Raheny B, this is their second win of the week following on from another hard fought win over St Joseph Boys and having only dropped 3 points this season they go in to their final game of Division 5 with a winner takes all match against second placed Naomh Barrog.

The D’s travelled to Whitehall C’s and were right in it for most of the game before conceding a couple of late goals. This side is developing well and is competitive against the A, B and C teams of other clubs that it has faced this season.

With the league coming to an end soon we have organised a number of challenge matches and tournament games with a view to looking towards 2014. On the 5th October we are invited to defend the Seamus Reilly Trophy in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath. On the 20th October we are travelling to Salthill/Knocknacarra to play the local team in a challenge with them coming for a reciprocal fixture on 5th November. We also hope to fit in a hurling challenge.

We are also going to increase the number of training sessions with Ciaran Meehan taking the non-hurlers on hurling weekends for additional skills training. In addition Ciaran is going to introduce age appropriate strength and conditioning midweek which will be open to both hurlers and non-hurlers.

Our fundraising continues with an ‘End of Term Disco’ on Friday 25th October in the Club, the DJ is Paul Williams and entry is open to U12s and their friends. There are great numbers playing at this level and we will be fielding 3 x 15 a side teams next year so we need to raise money for footballs and training equipment.
