U12 Girls Win Championship Thriller

The Under 12 Girls crowned a great season by winning the Div 2 Championship after a tremendous battle with Robert Emmets in Russell Park yesterday. The girls, who had finished second in their league earlier in the season, showed tremendous character and determination throughout this championship and deserved their win yesterday against very strong opposition.

Syls lead by a point at halftime after a very tight first half and built up a 6 point lead mid way through the second half but a Robert Emmets goal brought them right back into it and we had to endure a nervous end to the game. The girls defended magnificently to ensure no further scores and we won by 3 points. The win was even sweeter given that we lost two key players during the game with injuries but their replacements and the rest of the team rose to the challenge. It was a real team effort by everyone.

The squad of 20 girls consists of Kelly Power an outstanding goalkeeper, Aimee Cashin, Orla Heffernan, Cliodhna McNamara, Aobh Hyland, Moya Cowley, Erin Hunt, Michelle Lambe and Danniele Lawless in defence, Cliona Hamill (our captain) and Anna Brennan in midfield and forwards Fiona Gill, Sarah Whalley, Grace Cosgrove, Shauna Murphy, Kate McBride, Elana, Hogan, Abi O’Connell, Lauren Keogh and Rachel Callaghan. All put in a great effort this year and be proud of their achievements. Well done girls!

Thanks
