U13A team head for Division 1

The U13A Football completed their grading league with a 100% record on Saturday. The match was a shoot-out between the joint leading teams, Sylvesters and Oliver Plunket’s / ER, in Bridgefield on a fine Saturday afternoon.
The first half was a pretty tight affair with Syls having the advantage of a slight breeze. Syls where slow to get going, and OP/ER lead in the early stages. The two big midfielders from OP/ER where controlling the flow of the game and ensuring the Syls defence where kept on their toes.

After 10mins Syls opened their scoring when Eamon McLoughney collected out around the middle, shrugged off a few challenges and floated it over from 25m. Further scores from Bryn Redmond and Luke Troy (2) left us in the lead before OP/ER pulled one back coming up to half time.

Playing with the breeze in the second half, OP/ER attacked in waves and got their reward and retook the lead with a fortuitous goal after three minutes. In the following 25 minutes we got some barnstorming performances as Luke Troy (3), Bryn(1) and Sean Meehan(1) added points. One score went the entire length of the field, Christian Doyle collected at the end line, fed Philip Ryan who in turn fed Niall McCann. Niall passed, took a return, and found Jamie Kennedy in midfield who delivered a perfect pass to Bryn who scored a point.

Three late goals from Mikey Keenan, Sean Meehan and Jamie Kennedy and a point from Eamon finished the scoring.

We had many many fine performances from all nineteen players used.

This win should ensure the team will be playing Division 1 football in 2011.
