U13B footballers win in a cracker

U13F Div 5 Syls B 5-10 St Judes B 6-6 The u13B team made the long journey to Tymon Park in Templeogue on Tuesday night worth it with a great win in a very tight game. The game was a high scoring one with Syls getting out of the blocks fast and clocking up some great early points. The midfield of Jack Butler and Luke Cassidy in particular were working hard - looking for the ball and using it intelligently.
Their good work was undone when Judes fired home 2 rapid goals after some slick play. Syls stuck to the task though and some great work and movement in the half-forward line from Chris Kerley, Phelim Butler & Conor Byrne resulted in some great scores for the away team. Goals were coming thick and fast at both ends of the pitch but good scores from Sam Greenan and Daniel O'Brien in the latter stages of the first half ensured that Syls went in at half time 4-5 to 4-2 up.

When Syl's played Judes in the grading stages of the league they held a big first half lead only to surrender it in the second half and go down by a point. The lads were determined that the same would not happen this time.  Judes came at them - but the defense stood firm - blocking, harrying. Cathal Manning was imperious at full back - getting in front of his man and clearing well. In the corners Jack Maughan and Ciaran Shiels never gave their men an easy chance and the half back line of Jack Quinn, Liam Butler, Evan Walsh and Mossie Goggins showed the way defending well but also breaking upfield in support of the attack. the game was tight and tense but a great goal from full-forward Paul Grehan gave Syls a lead that they never surrendered. The last 5 minutes was end-to-end - Sys missing 2 great chances to press home their advantage. With 3 minutes to go goalie Jonnie Shiels pulled off a save worthy of Croke Park somehow touching the ball onto the cross bar while the Judes players were celebrating what they thought was a great score. On such moments are games decided. Syls held their lead for a great and well deserved win
