U13Bs tough start at Ballyboughal

U13B Grading St Peters Bboughal 8-6 v St Sylvesters 2-0 While Syls suffered defeat in this game the scoreline didn’t really represent what happened on the pitch. Bboughal started with all guns blazing and took an early 1-4 lead. It was a close first half with both teams finding the conditions on the field difficult to say the least.

It could have been more as we took a while to settle had it not been for David "the rock" Seagrave in goal ably assisted by defenders Joe Shannon, Greg"cool hand "Foley, John"the wizz"Clifford and Jamie "steady hand "Costello - they all made some great blocks tackles and counter attacks.

After weathering the storm Syls settled into their game and displayed great passing and movement. There was great work in the middle of the park from Jack" the tower" Larkin and Barry "the blade" Markey ably assisted by Sam"the lion heart" Barlow (who covered every inch of the field). We had super battling from Andrew "the demon" Desmond who got the ball moving up to the forwards. The conditions were tough and unfortunately we  didn’t take our chances until midway through the first half when great fielding from Jack"the dude" Hennessy sent the ball into Paul"the shark"Finn, and as cool as you he like slotted the ball into the net.

This settled Syls and again moments later the ball landed into Cillian"the hulk"Jennings who got the ball and passed it so cool to Daniel"bone crusher"Crowthers who took a rocket of a shot into the back of the net (if the keeper had of got in the way he to would of been in the net).

Syls were now well on top and controlling everything - a few more chances came and went and the ref blew for half time.  Bboughal were just a point up.

However, injuries to two players meant were now down to 12 and with Jack Hennessy carrying an injury  meant it was going to be a tough uphill battle for the second half. Sammy"the hammer" Murphy(who had the flu) came on for the cause and made an impact but Bboughal with the extra players started to wear Syls down and a number of goals were leaked towards the end. However Syls ensured they had to fight for every score and the lads never stopped battling.

While the result didn’t go our way all the parent/supporters and mentors were proud with this committed and courageous performance by the lads. We called it the battle of Ballyboughal in the where 14 young boys took to the field, battled bravely and walked off with their heads held high
