U14 footballers off the mark in Div1

This was our first game of the season with a short hop over the fence to take on our neighbours who had outperformed us in a recent challenge game. We got some very good commitment from all players but we lacked any real fluency when we had possession.

Naomh Mearnog 0-7 St Sylvester's 2-9

This was our first game of the season with a short hop over the fence to take on our neighbours who had outperformed us in a recent challenge game. We got some very good commitment from all players but we lacked any real fluency when we had possession. The defence did well to restrict Mearnog to 7 points. In attack we had some early chances that we didn't convert but we kept the scoreboard ticking over and a very well dispatched penalty gave us a 1- 6 to 0-4 half time lead. Mearnog had three unanswered points early in the second half. It was time to dig out a result with hard work on and off the ball. A late penalty put some daylight between the teams. Mearnog were better that the score line which doesn't reflect the hard work needed torepel some very promising attacks from their midfield and half back line with our midfield working hard defensively.
There was an air of winter and heavy legs about our play. "If Winter's here can Spring be far behind." We will need a bit more spring in our step in this division.

Over to you Fergus, although Dave McBride was looking Offaly lively
