U14 hurlers win at Castlenock
U14H D2 Castleknock 0 - 7. St Sylvesters. 5 - 16 On Saturday last the under 14 hurlers made the trip to Porterstown to take on Castleknock in a vital league match .
Although missing a number of regulars through injury etc the Syls team travelled in hope to face a much fancied Castleknock team . Although Syls got of to a sluggish start a tremendous goal from Luke Hughes kick started the Syls fightback. Some fine fast hurling followed from the Syls boys and at halftime Syls were a couple of points to the good.
The start of the second half was made particularly memorable as a result
of some fine early Syls scores . A brace of very well taken points by
Philip Ryan , who was drafted in to strengthen the forward line were a
joy to behold. Another fine score was a superbly taken point from a free
by Conor Byrne from a very difficult angle.
The score of the match , however , was by Cathal Manning . Having gained
possession inside his own half he proceeded to charge up the field and
drove the ball between the posts for a superb point.
There were some other good scores by Eoin Cooney , Eamonn McLoughney and Mikey Meaney .
Although we had some of the panel missing we dominated for most of
the game . Also a special mention to Sean Drumm who was out of school
sick for most of the week and yet still togged out on the day . Great
commitment.
Well done to all the lads on a terrific display
