It might have been cold looking on from the sideline but the Syls u14b side put in a second half performance that warmed the heart and put them into the Div 8 final. Playing against a Lucan Sarsfields side at 12th Lock the Syl's lads started slowly, kicking against the stiff wind they struggled to contain a confident Lucan side who seemed to score at will and had a good deal of luck for one of their goals - while the Syl's lads had to work very hard to raise a flag. At half time they changed around with Syl's trailing 3-5 to 1-2.

Syl's knew they had to play much better in the second half and with the wind at their backs they tore into their opponents from the throw in, scoring first and pinning sarsfields into their own half for the first 10 minutes. Suddenly the deficit did not look quite so intimidating - the wind was the same but in football terms it looked like hurricane Sandy was blowing towards the home sides' goal. All over the pitch the Syls team seemed to run faster, hit harder and think smarter - the work in the gym and on the training pitch was paying off and with 10 minutes to go Syls had squared the match with a cracking goal. Despite some late defiance from Lucan and some anxious moments in front of the Syls goal the lads from Malahide kicked on and won by 4 points in the end. At fulltime the sideline was buzzing - players, proud parents & coaches celebrating a courageous comeback and looking forward to the final.

Special mention must go to David Rodriguez (aka Casillas) from sunny Spain who played a great game in goal watched by his parents who were in town for a visit. We hope that they enjoyed the game and that they warm up soon!
