U14s again pick of the bunch

Busy afternoon in Bridgefield on Saturday with four games and Sunday morning also. Again, the U14s were the pick of our lads with a hard fought draw with Na Fianna.

U13 Div1 St Sylvesters 0-12 St Vincents 6-11

We seemed to be well in the game in general play and had much more of the ball in the second half. Vins, whether their forwards were very good or we were loose, seemed to get goals at will while we tended to to run into a blanket defense and didn't break down their full back line. Not as bad as it looked on the scoreboard but not much fun either.

U13 Div8 - no game

U14 Div1F St Sylvester’s 1-8  Na Fianna 1-8

Coulda……shoulda…….woulda…….

Coulda  and shoulda…….but didn’t. Why? We didn’t score enough when we had good possession in the first half. Na Fianna though had a very strong full back line.  The referee had the last word with the more loquacious players. When the margins are this close any lack of discipline hurts. Dave Mc Bride will have something to say as well.

On the plus side there were great performances in defence from Cian McCann, Jordan Lawless and Simon McKeown. In midfield Jamie Walsh and Kevin Dannaher performed brilliantly. Up front Paul McBride’s support play was excellent and Karl Stacey was bright and brave. Gary Lawlor was ice cool slotting over an excellent equalising point.

It’s nice to be disappointed with a draw against Na Fianna. We woulda been happy with that not so long ago.

U14 Div7 St Margarets    5-11    St Sylvesters B        2-04

U16 Div1 St Sylvesters A 1-08  Castleknock A  4-10

I know we lost this one also - we were laughing that Castlenock had Karim Abdul Jabbar guesting in the middle (actually, he was more of a Larry Bird or Kevin McHale) - he was certainly a handful.
