U14s and U15s lose opening games after brave efforts

U14 H Div1 Na Fianna 2 -11  St Sylvester’s 1-3

This was our first outing in division 1 and it was never going to be easy. Ciaran Fitzgerald won his first ball but took a severe blow to the arm that unfortunately sent him off to hospital. We wish him well. He’s as brave as they come.  At that stage we had just 15 players and many played on with injuries.

We were understandably behind in terms of speed and skill in this division but that only increased the effort and commitment. There were great performances all through the team but especially in defence in a second half wind assisted siege.

u15Goalkeeper Philip Browne’s left claw pulled down a bombardment of red hot missiles. Cian McCann was moved on to the dangerman where he did the business. He loves defending. Colm Byrne at full back reads it like a veteran. He sat down at the end of the match with a perfect black and blue impression of a hurl in his thigh. Brendan Shepard hurls like the boxer he is at corner back. He always punches above his weight. Karl Stacey had to be close to man of the match on Saturday. His blocking was brave and brilliant. Jordan “Warrior” Lawless soldiered on with an injury and as always gave it everything. Joe Bannigan was back after a two week layoff. He conceded just one point to his three opponents.

We had great support from parents on the line. Every effort, every block and every clearance was cheered on like a winning score. There was great pride all round in this performance.

U15 H Div2 St Sylvesters 5-4    Castleknock 5-6

Sean Kane is the best pound for pound hurler in Dublin and possibly the world. He scored 5-2 in this match. He is brilliant to watch. He does it in every match. Evil Kineveil would have been wincing at the bravery of this lad. He scored with almost every ball he got.

Two very late goals from Castleknock was the other story in this match. There were other great performances from a very unlucky Syls side who just failed to hold out for what would have been a deserved win.
