U9 footballers win over Na Fianna

St Sylvester's U9's hosted Na Fianna in 2 9 a-side games on Saturday morning in the Castle and ran out winners in both games
Our first team dominated from start to finish and ran out convincing winners. It was great to see that all the hard work and the time spent working on the skills in training is finally come to fruition. The whole team gave a display of tackling which we hadn't seen before and they also garnered quite a few skill points for blocking. The workrate was impressive throughout and the teamwork was evident with some fine passing movements and some great scoring which ensured that Na Fianna were never really in contention in this game. It's unfair to single out some of the players as they all did so well but special mention must go to man of the match Ronan Furlong who along with Tom Bennett gave a fine defensive performance in the second half, Shane O' Neill for another high energy display at center field and Sean Guiden who picked off some excellent points from play with his sweet left foot. Karl Keane, despite playing with an injured arm had a fine performance and was a constant threat while up front Stephen Brady had a great game and scored a fine point from play from 30 yards out on the left wing. David Deneher contributed 2 nice fisted scores from close range while under pressure from the Na Fianna defence and Denis Smith nipped in for a well taken goal in the second half. All in all it was a great team performance and a commanding display from the St Sylvesters lads who have made great progress as a team this year.

Team: Killian Bousfield, Daragh McLoughney, Aaron Lambe, Jack Boyne, Sean Guiden, Shane O'Neill, Karl Keane, Matthew Copeland, Tom Bennett, Conor Hoyne, Denis Smith, David Deneher, Sam McCormack

Our second team also played very well in defeating a dogged Na Fianna team. Tall, rangy and with a booming kick, Dylan Venner dominated the defence for Syls and accompanied by Sean Curran, Krishna Joyce and Matthew Brenner nothing was let through easily. In midfield Joaquin Shinbach,  Ollie Twomey and Craig McGrattan worked hard, made their tackles and fed a huge amount of ball in to the forwards. Up front Mark Kelly put on his best display of the season, Conor O’Brien, Robert Meehan and Adam Ajmal get better by the game and contributed greatly, some of their work off the ball was excellent and ensured our opponents struggled to get out of their own half. Scott Kane and Daniel Stone were a constant menace to the defence and never let them settle.
