Under 13 Girls Finish League in Style

U/13 Girls - St Brigids 1-13 St Sylvesters 3-7 The U/13 girls finished their league campaign on Sunday last with a very credible draw against St Brigids in Russell Park. St Brigids needed victory to secure a league play-off with St Perigrines, but the Syls girls destroyed their plans with a fantastic display. Missing 8 regular players from the squad, the team were ably supported by some of the up and coming stars from Shane Cowley's U/11 team and they did themselves proud
The girls trailed their hosts by 5 points with 15 minutes played, but goals from Sarah Whalley & Anna Brennan before the break and some tidy points by Emma Sullivan edged Syls in front by 1 point at the break. Louise Ryan was outstanding at midfield and covered every inch of the all weather pitch.
In the second half, the half-forward line started to dominate and Roisin Rainey & Carla Redmond caused Brigids all sorts of problems. Emma Sullivan got another goal and we edged 3 points clear. However our defence was under huge pressure in the last 10 minutes and despite powerful displays from Aoife O'Flynn, Lucia Hughes, Emma Lynch and Lisa Murphy in goal, we were caught with the equalising point in the 4th minute of added time.
However, this performance was a hugely pleasing way to finish the season and sets up the girls well for their Feile year in 2010.
