Under 14 Girls Beat Féile Champions in Division 1 League!

Following their heroic efforts in the Féile last weekend Eddie and Ann O’Mordha’s Under 14 Girls team got back to winning ways in the league with a superb win against Ballyboden in Broomfield this evening. Playing against the wind in the first half we trailed our visitors by 1-7 to 1-1 at the break. The girls came out in the second half and put in a spirited display to take some great scores and coupled with resolute tackling and defending and their never say die spirit, they edged out winners by a goal in the end.

St Sylvester’s 4-3  Ballyboden St Enda’s 1-9

This was a superb team effort from all the girls but in particular by Rachel Whalley in goal who brought off some outstanding saves. The back line of Sara Purcell, Niamh Harney (scored a superb point following a run upfield) and Rachel Mooney can take a bow! Lucia Hughes, Ciara Lynch and Eilish Meaney were everywhere and lent support to the backs and midfielders.  Midfielders Kim White, Louise Ryan and Emer Treacy (2 goals from 45’s) were up for the battle and ran their hearts out. Clare Hopkins, Emily Campion, Grainne McGinty (Great 1st half point), Ciara Cummins and Emma Lynch worked very hard and fought tirelessly for every ball. Up front Seanna Reilly (1-1) and Shauna Barry (1-0) took the scores when they were needed.

Yet in all the euphoria at the end there was something missing! Unfortunately Eddie was not present to see this outstanding win as he was otherwise detained on business and it was the first game he has missed since the team was formed in 2005 and that’s some commitment! Nevertheless he relished the post match reports when he finally managed to get to Broomfield an hour after the game had ended! It was a memorable evening for all concerned including mentors and spectators.
