Under 14 Girls Win Group – But Lose Out in Semi Final of Feile

Congratulations to our Under 14 Girls on winning the Feile Division 1 Group 2 played in Broomfield on Saturday. This was a great achievement by the girls to go unbeaten in the three matches. The performance against Clontarf was particularly noteworthy as they reversed a 7 point deficit at half time to a nine point victory at the end. This earned us a semi-final spot against Kilmacud Crokes over in Ballyboden on Sunday.

Unfortunately, the three matches from the previous day seemed to take their toll and we struggled against a strong wind in the first half. That said Kilmacud just worked the ball better to run out convincing winners in the end.

Eddie and Ann were very proud of the girls and most of them have been playing with the team since under 10 and the team was ably assisted by some of our under 13 girls. Thanks also to coach Declan Hetherton and trainer Geraldine Reilly for all their time and efforts with the team.

Off the field, the ladies committee – Brian, Angela, Suzanne, Cliona and Brian deserve a special mention for all the hard work done in getting Broomfield ready for the day. All visiting teams availed of some wonderful hospitality from St Sylvester’s with tea, coffee and sandwiches a plenty. Many thanks to the many parents who went to the trouble in providing this fare and also helping out on the day.

It was a wonderful weekend for girls football and all in St Sylvester’s can be very proud in making Feile ’09 in Broomfield a wonderful success.  Full details of matches and photos on
