Update on Hurling Blitz

“Many thanks to all players, coaches, referees and volunteers who made the hurling blitz last Friday a tremendous success. We had 48 players togged out for the blitz and 27 juvenile hurlers participating in the ‘Crossbar challenge’. The latter competition was keenly contested across a variety of age groups with Daniel Danaher taking home the top prize – a coveted Dublin jersey signed by all Dublin players including the messiah himself, Anthony Daly. Jack Hazely from the under 14s was another winner on the night, taking home a Syls kit bag for his efforts.

Like the Holy Stone of Clonrichert, we had to upgrade the status of the hurling blitz late last week. Due to strong demand, we had enough players to hold an 11 a side blitz, with a total of 4 teams competing. Not surprisingly the Kilkenny team won top honours, with Geoff Walsh, Tom Richardson, Gareth McGrath and Enda O’Flaherty impressing for the winners. Gallant runners up were Waterford, where Anthony Cooney and Niall Guidan rolled back the years up front. Cooney even had his own fan base from the under 11s with him. Comparisons to John Mullane were made with Anthony feeding off the attention from the crowd! Maith thú Tony! A final note to thank everybody again for their effort on Friday – Hopefully this will be the first of many successful hurling nights for the club.

Congrats to Colm O'Connor, Ernie Brenner, Paudie Duffy et al for their froesight in organising this event.
