Great recovery by Minor Hurlers

MHC C O Tooles 2 - 10 St Sylvesters 1 - 21 The Syls minor hurlers travelled to O Tooles hurling grounds on Sunday morning last for an early start to round 2 of the minor hurling championship . Syls got anything but an early start in this game as we were overwhelmed by an attacking O Tooles outfit .

O Tooles went into a two point lead almost from the throw in as the Syls boys struggled to cope with an agressive and skilful O Tooles team. We got off the mark with a point from a free by Sean Graham but O Tooles came right back at us .They continued to exert massive pressure on our defence and scored a goal and three points without reply by Syls . Things were not looking too good at this stage . As the half wore it was evident that Syls were in big trouble as O Tooles piled on the scores .

The half finished out with a scoreline of O Tooles 2 - 8 Syls 5 points .

If ever there was a game of two halves then this was it as a rejuvenated Syls side took to the field for the second half. We opened the scoring with a fine point but O Tooles immediately responded by winning a 65 which they duly converted . It was then that the Syls boys kicked into action and the following 20 minutes produced as good a brand of hurling as you are likely to see anywhere . With Philip Ryan moved to midfield and helping us win the aerial battles it was he who set up the Syls goal which was sent to the net by Eoin Cooney . Sean Graham scored some good scores also . In the backs a very solid second half display by Kieran Murphy and a determined display by Sean Foley ( who was excellent throughout ) . At midfield both Bryn Redmond and Jamie Kennedy played very well throughout. In the forwards Conor O Byrne gave a very good display. Plaudits on the day have to go to two players - Luke Hughes who was simply splendid throughout ( and is developing well as a hurler of some note ) and Daniel Murphy who when introduced gave a magnificent display - a truly classic hurler this fella !

Syls outscored O Tooles from there on in by landing an impressive haul of 1 - 16 to the finish ( All 1 - 16 in the last 25 minutes ) to secure an incredible victory . Victory from the jaws of defeat certainly !

Well Done boys - great win - But watch your first half displays !
