AHL9: St Finians 2-6 St Sylvesters 1-12 ( Ridgewood, Swords 20th April 2015) Another good win for this new adult team, 3 out of 3 by my reckoning but more importantly the team is becoming more self-sufficient each week and relying less on players doubling up.

On a beautiful evening in Ridgewood, Finians started very lively and for a while it looked like they might run rings around us. Luckily for Syls they didn’t manage to convert this energy into scores. The score remained at 1 point apiece for a good while in that first half  until Declan Markey found the net with an absolute rasper of a shot  to leave the score at 1-2 to 0-2 at HT.

Teams traded 2 points each  early in the 2nd half  before Finians then got on top for a period and scored 1-1 to put them 2 ahead.

But while Finians had youth and speed in abundance we had maturity !  and composure.  The very  experienced defence make up of Ian McCafferty, Ciaran Murray, Billow, Fergus and Oisin formed the platform for a sustained period of dominance by Syls in which we scored  8 points without reply, David Kennedy firing over 5 of those and Paul Ryan with 2 fine scores also. The Manning brothers Eoin and Cathal worked tirelessly throughout. Conor McMahon  put in a big shift in the middle, Lloyd and Shane scrapped for every ball and big Phil was a constant threat up front.  Finians got a late goal to make for a nervy finish, but our defence held strong to seal the win for Syls

Although this team is motoring well it but could do with a few more players so any player, past or present, young or old,  regardless of fitness\skill levels  feel free to join in and give Danny O’Connor a call on 086-1742380
