Junior B hurlers win at Drimnagh Castle

Danny and Jim took their charges to the southside for a great start to the new season.. It is a great achievement to have developed a third adult hurling team last year and it will stand to us as we progress to regaining and sustaining our senior hurling status so hats off to Danny and Jim and their players. AHL 8 --Drimnagh Castle -- Sunday 6th March 2016, 3:00 p.m. throw-in St Sylvesters 2-13 While I'm at it I must give great credit to Realt Dearg, a new club fielding teams in AHL6, AHL8 and AHL9. I have no doubt they will be a force in Dublin Hurling over time and I wish them well, I love what they are doing.

AHL 8 --Drimnagh Castle -- Sunday 6th March 2016, 3:00 p.m. throw-in
St Sylvesters 2-13 ; Realt Dearg 2-7

Realt Dearg started strongly and were 2 pts up very quickly, but several wides allowed Syls opportunity to keep in touch. Then a long range shot from Brian Walsh, playing his first adult game dropped into the net and, thanks to 5 frees from Colm O Connor we were 1-5 to 0-3 up at half time. Realt Dearg were fired-up in the 2nd half and scored 1-1 very quickly to all but wipe out the lead. However, points from Cathal Manning and Derek Roche put us 3 up entering the last quarter.

Then Dearg had their best spell and when they went 2 up with a well taken goal by their number 10, it looked bad for our newly promoted team. The last 5 minutes were amazing and brought comparisons with the 1994 All Ireland final when Limerick were ambushed by Offaly.Chief scorer in that spell, which saw Syls clock up 1-5 without reply was Deccy Markey with 3 excellent points and a Cathal Manning goal earned a memorable win.
Fergus Rooney in goal made a few telling saves and sorties out the field. Paddy Mc Intyre, Gavin Wright and Killian Roberts were superb in the full back line, while Kieran Canny at centre-back was ably supported by Shane Mc Shera and Eoin Manning on the wings.  Man-of-the match Derek Roche (0-1) was partnered excellently at midfield  by Jody Hickey. Half forwards Brian Walsh(1-0), Colm O Connor (0-7f) and Paul Ryan fought for every ball and worked well together, while the full forward line of Cathal Manning (1-1), Peter Guyett and that man Deccy Markey (0-4) can be very pleased with their day.
