Junior Bs win a cracker at Maurs

JFC D A two point win away to Maurs in the D Championship keeps our unbeaten run in tact for 2015, a great feat for a very young 4th football team at Syls. This was a great game in very windy conditions against a Maurs team that led for most of the game. I asked the lads last night who was Man of the Match and there was a pretty quick shout for Mossie (Derek Morris) who is having a great season in both hurling and football and is also coaching at juvenile and his ball winning and distribution from corner was indeed excellent.

One good leg between them

Then Patrick Dunne got a few shouts, he was a rock at centre back and stood up for some of the younger guys against a bigger stronger Maurs forward division. It was worth noting that Maurs had us weighed up by putting a championship game on the smaller pitch and a juvenile game on the main pitch. I think it suited Patrick nicely.

Stephen Donnelly got a shout for Man of the Match after scoring 1-07 with another brilliant display of free taking, it's great to see a guy who can put the ball down and slot it over from all angles and distances, with and against the wind.

My Man of the Match, however, had to be Sean Halligan who gave a great display of ball winning and his distribution in the second half was excellent with the wing, lots of good low probing passes that stretched the Maurs defense.

Mid second half it lookedlike luck was against us as we hit the crossbar three times, Stephen Keogh in the middle causing havoc after he replaced the equally troublesome Lee Byrne, Eoin O'Keefe, Cian Wallnutt and Cian Tobin are very quick and always busy up front, James Byrne partnering well with Sean in the middle, Dylan taking a few hits and never complaining, Dave Lidwell won a few great balls and Dylan McEvoy gives great cover across the half line. Robbie Taylor was in danger of getting nose bleed in the second half drifting high up the field (or, I'm watching too much soccer) and minor keeper Liam Sweeney looked very confident and brave in the goals with a great performance. Daragh McGrath finished the game with a magnificent point.

Team: Liam Sweeney, Derek Morris, Robbie Taylor (Ronan Gain),  Daragh McGrath, Dylan McEvoy, Patrick Dunne, David Lidwell (Ben Higgens), James McKenna Byrne, Sean Halligan, Dylan Redmond (Stephen Keogh), Eoin O'Keefe, Cian Walnutt, Stephen Donnelly, Lee Byrne (Sam Horan, scored the lead point ), Cian Tobin.
