Junior hurlers great comeback against Crokes

AHL6: Syls 1-16 Kilmacud Crokes 1-15, Sun 25th Sept 2016 Broomfield.Whe n you consider that at one stage Crokes were 8 points up, had also missed a penalty, you might be forgiven for thinking a win for Syls was not on the cards. But not for the first time in recent games, this team dug deep to get back into the game and then forged on to win.

We recovered from an unfortunate early own goal and traded points during the  first quarter.  Crokes were leading  by that goal 1-6 to 6 when they  had their wind assisted purple patch and took an 8 point lead. A super goal from Gavin just before the break was crucial and pegged them back to 5 points.

Syls responded magnificently in the third quarter  when Kevin McLoughney and Colly Boran rattled off 8 points between them including 3 frees as Crokes struggled to contain Dan Murphy. However  the sides were still level as Crokes hung on,  picking off a couple of scores and then two quick frees had them 1 point up. Eoin Ryan levelled matters again with a brilliant point from way out on  the right wing. Dan  popped over  a free to seal the win. A mention also for Johnny Conway  who had  a great game capped with a fine point.

Crokes had their usual quota of pacey players well capable of scoring  and the space created by the 14-a-side game (Crokes were short)  seemed to suit them. The introduction of Kevin, Dan and Philly Ryan at HT more than solved that issue and in truth we should have been well clear having been denied twice by their keeper in addition to a string of wides.

This important win  secures a play-off position.
