Ladies back to their winning ways

St, Maur's 4-5, St. Sylvester's 3-12. Syl's Ladies won this top of the table Cup clash with St. Maur's on Wednesday evening. We were missing our County stars and four other first choice players but put in a spirited if flawed performance to secure top place on goal difference.

Playing downhill in the first half, we were not flattered to be 2-5 to 1-1 ahead at half time.

However, our passing was woeful resulting in several balls going straight to opposition players. Luckily, our full back line was rock
solid with Amy Hazely showing well making several high catches and interceptions. Among the starting forwards, Lisa Murphy caught the
eye, making herself available for passes at corner forward and carrying and passing to good effect, scoring three points in the
process. Louise Ryan and Sinead Tracey covered acres of ground at mid field, contributing in both defence and attack. Sinead used her
strength to good effect to force he marker into errors.

Katie Slattery retired early with a bang on the knee but reappeared in the second half and, after a few wayward shots, secured five long
range points, three from play. Emma Sullivan, who replaced Katie, played a lively game, getting herself into good positions in front of
goal and scoring 2-2 in the process. Danielle Lawless played her usual solid game at corner back until moving up to half forward to
facilitate one of the subs coming on in her place and proceeded to enjoy herself playing some very nice football.

Maurs raised their game when it was their turn to play down hill, with their No. 8 making several determined runs and scoring at least
two of their three second half goals. They got within two points towards the end but Syls made a comeback to get a few more points to
close out the game.

Syl's are now joint top with Maurs and are ahead on goal difference. However, Maurs have finished their games while Syls have
two games in hand against bottom half teams so it looks like this trophy is coming Syl's way.
