Syl's Senior Ladies won their last League match to clinch the title, having won seven games out of seven in this eight team league. In
doing so, they gained promotion to Division 1 next year, to match their Senior Championship status.

Syl's showed their intent from the start with a goal in the first minute. Niamh McEvoy won the throw-in and broke clear, passed to
Sinead Aherne who had made a run from full forward, Sinead hit an inch perfect pass to Niamh Harney, making an intelligent run from
corner forward to the space in front of goal and, although the keeper parried her first shot, she got in for the rebound to score.

Maurs came back with an attack of their own and forced a penalty. Fortunately for Syls, the penalty was mishit, struck the upright and was cleared. Syls tightened up in defence after that early scare and held the opposition to just 4 points in the first half, while the forwards scored 2-7. In the second half, Maurs withdrew their half forward line and played two up front with lots of space. They managed to get two goals via the early ball to the big full forward but Syls defence still held them to just four scores (two more points) in the second half while the forwards put on a show, scoring 4-5 in the process.

This was an excellent team performance with every player playing her part. Several players could legitimately lay claim to the player of
the match title. At the same time, it would be impossible to identify a weak link in the team. It augurs well for the future of this team that so many young players (including five minors) can play with so much confidence, intelligence and composure. While there are big challenges ahead for this team as they join the top ranks of Dublin Ladies football, we can be assured that they will hold their own at that level.

Scorers for Syls were: Nicole Owens, 2-3; Sinead Aherne, 1-5; Lisa Murphy, 2-0; Niamh Harney, 1-1; Niamh McEvoy, 0-2; Emer Treacey, 0-1..Team: Amy Hazely; Leah Harrald, Michelle Walls, Carol Hickey; Danielle Lawless, Anne Clarke, Emma Lynch;Sinead Treacy, Niamh McEvoy; Emer Treacey, Nicole Owens, Lucia Hughes; Niamh Harney, Sinead Aherne, Lisa Murphy.
