Minor Hurlers great win in extra time

MHC B QF St Sylvesters 3-17 St Brigids 3-16 Dare I say, our best win ever. Battled from behind a number of times against a strong talented Brigids to scrape home by the narrowest of margins. Although we led at half time 1-5 to 1-4 it is fair to say we were mostly chasing the game, a fine Colm Byrne goal and points from Conor, Simon, Collie and Philip bringing is back after a slow start.

Brigids took the lead immediately on the restart with a goal and pointed frees and led by 4 but a deftly flicked goal by Colm Boran kept us in touch. Brigids again goaled and their number 6 was was killing us from frees and open play but the introduction of Killian Haverty changed that and, along with Eamon McLoughney, gave us renewed energy in the half forward line. Points from Collie, Colm, Simon again up the middle gave us the draw at full time.

Eoin Cooney came in for extra time and it was his goal, a really neat drop shot when completely surrounded that gave us the win.

Defensively we were super all day against some very talented forwards - Matt Rosenell will be sore today after the number of tackles and hits he took, Alan Kavanagh excelled at centre back in his second game in two days. We ended up winning the mid-field battle after taking an early roasting, Simon's high catching and Barry's industry wearing down their opponents. Up front, 3-17 in a really hard game tells it's own story.

Lucan Sarsfields in the semi-final - I hear a few of them played in the county senior final yesterday so it should be a good challenge.

The Fair Play award goes to Bernard who corrected the half time score after the ref appeared to award us one of Brigids points. The start of the second half saw Brigids awarded five frees in a row, just to prove yet again that 'no good deed goes unpunished'.
