Minor hurlers win high scoring encounter

MHL2 St Sylvesters 4 - 11. Thomas Davis 4 - 7 The Syls boys got off to a slow start here in rain soaked pitch 1 in Broomfield . Playing against a strong breeze the Syls mentors took a gamble by going all out for a couple of early goals. This didn't work out for Syls as we conceded a couple of soft goals midway through the first half so plans had to change

 .

The fullback line of Barry Crosse , Philip Ryan and Kieran Murphy were excellent throughout the game but never more so than the first 20 minutes or so . In fact Kieran Murphy was terrific all through the game .
As the half progressed the Syls boys began to get to grips with the game and started to hurl with a little bit more authority .Our midfield pairing of Daniel Murphy and Luke Hughes were dominant at this stage with Luke putting in a very strong showing . Our half forward line of Cathal Manning ,Brian Walsh who were led superbly by Denis O Brien at Centre forward who worked tirelessly throughout the game . Nevertheless Thomas Davis continued to tack on a couple of scores .

The teams went in with Thomas Davis leading 3 - 4 to 1 - 5 .

Syls again started the second half slowly and conceded the first point of the half for Davis to lead by 6 points . At that the revamped Syls half back line of Daniel Deneher , Eamonn McLoughney ( who was moved from Corner Forward ) and the inform Mikey Meaney took control and began to deliver some good ball into the Syls forward line . With the introduction of Jamie Kennedy at half time this seemed to give us a lot more options . Indeed Jamie had a terrific game when introduced .
Eoin Ryan who was at this stage operating at wing forward began to come into the game .
But then the Syls boys clicked into gear proceeded to out score Thomas Davis in the second half by 3 - 6 to 1 - 3 to end up winning by a 4 point margin .
The Syls full forward line played really well in the second half with Sean Graham and Cian McLoughlin playing really well. Eoin Cooney scored all three of the Syls second half goals.

In the end this was a good win over a talented and well drilled Thomas Davis outfit who will no doubt cause problems for a lot of the other teams fancied in this division.
We play away to Ballyboden in two weeks in our next league game .
