Minors off the mark in hurling championship
We got off the mark after 7 minutes with a finely taken point by Sean Graham.
Kilmacud responded with a brace of points that had them two points up midway through the first period.
Then Mikey Meaney won a great ball on his halfback line and passed to Eamonn McLoughney who drove the ball down into the Kilmacud back line where Eoin Cooney rose highest to grab the ball from the air and he turned and crashed the ball into the roof of the net to put Syls a point ahead !
Some further points by Eamonn McLoughney , Sean Graham and a cracker of a score from Conor O Byrne from way out on the right hand side put Syls into a 6 point half time lead .
At the start of the second half Syls introduced BrIan Walsh to the forward line and he scored a great point to put us further ahead.
Syls defence had to withstand a period of Kilmacud pressure in the early stages and some great defending by Eoin Ryan , Barry Crosse , Niall McCann and a sterling display by Kieran Murphy at full back withstood the Crokes pressure.
Mention also of Jamie Kennedy who played in goal ( and played brilliantly ) and Philip Ryan who lined out in the unfamiliar position of full forward in what proved to be a shrewd positional move by the Syls selectors .
Syls really got on top midway through the second half when first Eoin Cooney put a further 1 goal and 3 points on the board and Luke Hughes scored a cracker of a goal and Sean Graham added a couple more points .
Sean had another great game yesterday and is really blossoming as a hurler of some promise .
Syls maintained their lead to the end and now head to play O Tooles in the next round away.
Comment must be made about the fantastic work rate , application and the hurling skills of the Syls boys . They really played terrific hurling and competed ferociously all through. None more so than our two midfield stalwarts Bryn Redmond and Daniel Deneher .
Now on to play O Tooles in two weeks time
