We have entered a 3rd adult hurling team this season for the first time in a number of years. The first league game was last Sunday and the lads got off to a winning start, beating St Pat’s Palmerstown by 5 points (3-15 to 3-10). The team is made up of a mix of young lads just out of minor grade, some old warriors who are refusing the hang up the hurl and a few players who are coming back to hurling for the first time in a number of years. Danny O’Connor and Jim Wardick are at the helm. A welcome return for the 2 most experiences managers in the game

We opened up a 7 point lead by the break and despite conceding a few goals early in the second half we managed to extend our lead again for a relatively comfortable win in the end. Paddy McIntyre, Gary Plunkett, Billo Kirrane and Eoin Manning put in excellent performances at the back. Paul Ryan and Philip Browne hurled a huge amount of ball in the half forward line and picked off a few scores. Great to see Lloyd Rooney and Decky Markey play their first competitive hurling games in a number of years. Lloyd even chipped in with a goal and a couple of points on his debut. Cathal Manning and Eoin Kennedy came off the bench to cement the victory.

The only sour note to the day was a bad injury suffered by Peter Guyatt who broke his collar bone after falling heavily in the first half. We hope to see Peter back playing before too long.

Next up is a home game versus St Monica’s on March 29th.
