Senior Ladies struggle against Man 0’War

Syl’s Senior Ladies came off second best to Man O’War on Wednesday evening on a score line of 0-12 to 0-18. Syl’s were up against it from the start, missing two of their Dubs players through injury and six who played in last week’s cup victory over St. Maur’s through a combination of injury and illness. To add to their woes, Kate Sullivan had to retire early in the first half with a recurrence of an earlier injury.

However, they did themselves no favours in the first half with some of

their normally reliable players making uncharacteristic passing and
handling errors that gave the advantage to the opposition. Despite Sinead
Aherne making herself available with several good off the ball runs, it
seemed as if she was invisible to some of the other players. They ended up
at half time on the wrong side of a 0-10 to 0-4 score line.

From the start of the second half, Syls set about putting right what they
had got wrong in the first half. With some slick passing and good off the
ball movement, they quickly notched up some scores. Danni Lawless got on
the end of the first two moves to score two points. Sinead also was much
more involved, both making plays and scoring herself. Half way through the
second half, Syl’s seemed in command and looked on course for victory.
However,
the referee had other ideas. A yellow card (10 minute sin bin) after
fifteen minutes that seemed very harsh followed five minutes later by a
straight red gave Syl’s a mountain to climb. This allowed Man O’War back in
to the game to re-establish the six point lead that they had at half time.
Despite Syl’s best efforts in the last five minutes, Man O’War held on for
a 6 point win.

Scorers for Syl's: Sinead Aherne 0-7, Dannielle Lawless 0-3, Emma
Sullivan, 0-2
