Seniors safely over St Johns

SFC last 16 St Sylvesters 1-19 St Johns Ballinteer 1-09 A super first half performance and a more workmanlike second saw us safely over a strong St Johns outfit that have been getting a lot of attention since beating Plunkets in a previous round. We started brightly but only had three Nigel points to show from a dominant first quarter before a defensive mistake gave Johns a converted penalty.

A super pass from Eugene Keating to Eoin Fanning for a great goal was a telling response from our lads that pretty much defined the game. Keating and Micháel followed with points and we never looked back.

Defensively we were very solid and contained Johns to some well taken long range points but they never got through to really threaten Finno in goals. I had to apologise to Stephen that I had just put down the camera when he made an absolutely brilliant high catch late in the game but he has promised to do it again in the next round and I will do my best to snap it to share with our readers.

Fionn is back to his best at full back, Glen Hazely gave a man-of-the-match performance on the right wing, Eugene up front was also super but it would be hard to find fault with any of the lads. Ross and Shane put in a huge amount of work in the middle and Eoin Fanning and Gary Sweeney (until he made way for an equally fast and very hard working Alan Foy) were flying in the half line.

An encouraging feature was the strength of the substitutions, we seem to have a good strong panel, hope I'm not tempting anything.
