St Sylvester’s GAA club notes November 10th

Next week’s fixtures: We play Intermediate hurling league at home to Round Towers on Sunday morning at 11.00am. We need a victory here and hope that St Vincent’s beat Thomas Davis to qualify for the top four play offs. Please come along and support. We play Under 21 B hurling championship at home to Erin’s Isle at 14.30 on Saturday. The junior hurlers play league away to Faughs on Sunday morning at 11.00am.

Minor hurling championship quarter final

St Sylvester’s 3-17 St Brigit’s 3 -16

“These are the days of miracle and wonder.” This was a heart stopper. We led for the first time with the last score, a superbly taken goal by Eoin Cooney at the end of extra time. We fought from start to finish for every ball and in every challenge against a very good St Brigit’s team. It was a gigantic effort and a magnificent and well deserved victory for everyone concerned with this team. It was also a thriller for the large, loud and very happy support and a privilege to be there.

Intermediate football, top 4 playoff

St Sylvester’s 1-5 St Brigit’s 1-13

St Brigit’s didn’t leave Broomfield empty handed. They scored a goal late in the first half to lead at half time by 1-8 to 4 points. We scored a goal early in the second half but Brigit’s kept the scoreboard ticking over with five second half points. We have been very competitive at this level this season and the prospects for next year are excellent.

Under 21 football championship

St Maur’s 0-7 St Sylvester’s 4-6

Playing Maur’s away is never easy and four goals with a very good defensive performance were enough for the victory. We have very good management and players and are quietly confident of keeping this run going.
