Tributes to Dave Billings

I see where Dave Billings has passed away. I was only chatting to him in Broomfield on Saturday evening he cycled out to watch the senior game, I was pucking on the same pitch and he stopped to chat and asked was I still playing away. He was even captured in one of the photos above the right shoulder of No 2. Always said hello, RIP. Hilary Murray-Hession

Very sad to hear of the death of Dave Billings. He was two years ahead of me in Marino CBS Primary & Joey's CBS Secondary. In those years (when I was there) from 1963 to the year he left Joey's in 1971 he was without doubt in my opinion the best Gaelic Footballer & Hurler in these two great GAA Schools during these years. Both Dave & Brendan Pockock (who was in my year) made the Dublin panel in 1974 and remained on it until the end of the decade winning 3 All Ireland and 6 Leinster Championship titles. On the pitch Dave was a tough player and I recall him saving a goal with his face around 1965 in a Hurling Final in Croke Park. His black eye was out about an inch the following day as Brother O'Reilly explained in a packed hall how he had won the game for Marino. Off the pitch he was always a true gentleman who always had advice for any boy or girl playing Gaelic Games. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam Dílis
