U13 footballers going well
We lost star midfielder, Andrew Roe, before throw in but on a day when all our switches seemed to work, David Lynch came in for his first start and did very well. We conceded a sloppy goal but turned 0-9 to 1-0 ahead after a good hard working performance in the first half. Key was a strong full back line where Jack Boyne, Sean Gibson and Euan Farquarson shut down almost every threat and gave Simon Murphy (whose handling is always excellent) an armchair ride in the goal. Eoghan Buckley won a huge amount of dirty ball at half forward and got a couple of great points, Danny Taaffe did an amount of work at full forward getting great possession and distributing it well.
Early in the second half we conceded 1-2 to bring the game tight but this was a game the lads wanted badly and with Josh Bannon, Aaron Coleman and Josh Reid superb in the half back line, Sean Guiden waltzing around midfield well supported by Daragh McLoughney we ensured a lot of possession for our forwards. Denis Smith led the forward line and scored a crucial goal and a couple of great points. Cian Grassick was denied a stunning goal by hitting both posts with a hammer of a shot after a 30 yard high speed solo through the heart of the defence. In the other corner Conor Hoyne worked hard and bravely to secure some vital possessions and was always available in support. Our subs, Ollie Twomey and Pearse Clyne made a great impact (Pearse with a goal and an assist) .
The team have been putting in great performances recently but this was the first match where 2 halves were put together and their reward was a good win. There is still a lot of work to do but well done on the performance.
