U16 Hurlers training at altitude

The U16 Hurlers rounded off their summer activities last week with a bit of pre-championship altitude training and some team bonding activities at the new Poc Fada Golf up in Deer Park in Howth. The recipients of ‘Worst Puck Off the First Tee’ and ‘Wooden Spoon’ prizes shall remain nameless to protect the afflicted !

The bragging and slagging rights went to Barry Crosse who beat Daniel Deneher in a dramatic playoff after both players were tied in the regulation round. Then it was down to Beshoffs for a feed of fish and chips to round off a good day’s fun and craic. Highly recommended day of fun for hurlers of all ages.

This Class of ’99 never had a hurling team before this year (and only 4 serious hurlers) but a recruitment drive was started amongst the U16 football squad back in January and after some arm twisting and cajoling it yielded enough to enter a team in Div 5. Since then they’ve gone from strength to strength and now have a great squad of 24 committed hurlers who have stuck with it all year and are now playing some great hurling. They’re flying high in the league with maximum points from 10 games and their next outing is a rearranged ‘C’ Championship Q/F against St Maurs this Saturday in Rush ….all support welcome.
