Update on Bridgefield modifications proposals

As many members are aware, Fingal County Council recently drafted plans to increase the size of the car park in Bridgefield, the proposal will go before a full session of the Councillors in July and in advance an information meeting was held in the Library, Ciaran Meehan (Chairman) and Ernie Brenner (Secretary) attended and spoke on the clubs beha

The proposals show a new car parking area coming up to around the centre line of the main Bridgefield pitch. With some realignment work and excavation of the hill at the back, we would not however lose a pitch.

Since the proposal was made public by the Council, we have engaged with them constructively to ensure that the interests of the club and its players are best served. Following a number of meetings with the Council and their recognition of our need for more and better playing facilities, the Council have agreed to the following:

  • The clubs status in Bridgefield is important and 2 pitches would be provided and would be upgraded in quality from the existing;
  • The club would be offered a long term sporting lease on the 2 pitches in Broomfield that we currently use and a contribution would be made by Fingal to level and upgrade this area

Furthermore, the Council is going to actively seek a playing pitch for Pope John Paul 2 NS, close to it and allowing safe access for children. This school currently has no playing field.

Following consultation with the Juvenile Committee, the Executive, the Trustees and other members of the club, we are supportive of the Councils plans in that:

  1.  -it copper fastens our status in Bridgefield;
  2. -it allows up to develop Broomfield in to a fit for purpose, flexible and conveniently located centre for the clubs activities;
  3. -it allows us to continue to grow our playing base as existing facilities are almost at full capacity.

By accepting the proposal put before the full Council shortly we will have control over our own destiny, ability to develop our own facilities and continue to have room for expansion of the playing numbers of girls and boys, ladies and men.

Please email the councillors below asking them to support the development of our club by supporting the Bridgefield proposal.

Regards,

Ernie Brenner

Secretary
