SFC QF St Vincents 0-14 St Sylvesters 2-07 We left Parnell Park very disappointed but proud of our team after losing by the narrowest margin against a good Vincents outfit. We fell five points behind in the first half as we struggled to get a grip around the middle but we gave a great display in the second with two great goals and two more that got away but time ran away on us as we tried to get the equaliser.

ST VINCENT’S 0-14 ST SYLVESTER’S 2-7

St Vincent’s survived to tell the tale after a strong second half comeback from St Sylvester’s in their Dublin SFC quarter-final at Parnell Park on Saturday evening.
Vins looked in control at the break when leading 0-9 to 0-4 as the precision of their passing and overall superiority had them five points to the good.
Ciarán Dorney slotted three first half points for Vins with Diarmuid Connolly, Shane Carthy, Tomás Quinn and fleet-footed corner-back Hugh Gill all getting in on the scoring act.
In their defence that were grateful to young full-back Jarlath Curley for denying Syls what looked a dead-cert goal with a brave block on Nigel Dunne.
However, a Mark Brennan goal eight minutes into the second half brought the Malahide side back into contention.
Indeed they should have raised a green flag a few minutes earlier but Miceál McCarthy hit the underside of the crossbar from close range.
The Marino men responded well to Brennan’s goal with points from Gavin Burke and Tomás Quinn (two, one ’45′) but regain the holding on the game.
However, with 13 minutes remaining Syls struck for the second goal when Eugene Keating finished brilliantly to the net following approach play from Gary Sweeney to reduce the deficit to 0-13 to 2-5.
Vins scored just once more through Quinn but it was just enough as two points from Nigel Dunne were not enough to force the game to extra-time.
