St Sylvester’s club notes 28th Feb 2010
It was a great start to the adult Football Leagues, with three wins and a draw for the four teams. The senior team had a six point win at home to Jude’s and hope to continue their winning start to the season when they travel to Saggart on Wednesday to play St Mary’s in the semi-final of the 2009 Vincent de Paul Cup. Both of the junior football teams had good home wins.
Repairs in Broomfield
The damaged backnets in Broomfield have been repaired. Many thanks to Martin White of JW Hire and Nationwide Access, who supplied the height for hire gratis. We are awaiting the delivery of a new floodlights pole to replace the one blown down at the Training Pitch before Christmas. Replacement is expected in the next week or two, depending on weather. We had very good wins this week in the Football Cups for the Seniors’, Intermediates and 4th team. The senior team beat Round Towers’ by 2-8 to 0-8 in the St Vincent De Paul Cup. The adult Hurling and Minor games were called off due to the bad weather. Training takes place as usual this week in preparation for the start of the Football Leagues next weekend.

St Sylvester’s club notes 1st February 2010
Performance of the week goes to the under 12a team who defeated their great rivals Na Fianna by 4-11 to 3-3. These are a talented bunch of lads who are steadily improving into a fine team. Both of the under 11 teams went on a goal rush against St Brigit’s but Brigit’s did extract a win against our under 13s. The under 14a team got off to a blistering start, scoring 7 goals against Ballymun Kickhams.

St Stephens Day - VdeP Draw and a bit of crack
There has been an association between St Sylvester's and St Vincent De Paul over a number of years. Our contact here is Anthony Lavin who has been doing great work for a number of years to alleviate poverty in the area of the Northside. Our club is going to help by having a fantastic St. Stephan's day music raffle ! We have received a very generous donation of prizes for the draw on December 26th. We are however still looking for more prizes for this draw. If anyone wants to donate unwanted Christmas presents or anything else they will be very welcome. We propose to do out sheets listing everyone who donated prizes in the draw in November and the two December draws & leave them on the tables. Gibneys are sponsoring beer so we will be in a position to give a free drink at the bar for every €5 ticket sold. This of course will be great fun event and is helping a very worthy cause. Any body wanting to donate prizes or to help in any way please contact Eddie or Ann at 8460938 or 087-2562600.
Christmas message from Eddie Sullivan
What a year we had in 2009! Could we have asked for more? Maybe, but then again maybe not. 2009 was not just a good year for St Sylvester’s GAA Club – it was a great year !
Seasons greetings from the Deep South
I see the Dublin County Board not happy with the way football is structured. WE will setup a special chamoionship for them, the Northside could play the Southside and the East could play the West. We could call it the Molly Malone Cup. Seasons greetings from the Real Capital.
The Field - It's Our Field!!
What would The Bull McCabe have to saw about a plan to pour concrete on our beautiful field. Sorry you have to download it - turn the sound up. Bernard has been busy.
Great support for Bridgefield Petition
Ciaran Meehan thanked all the team mentors and players who gave up their Saturday to collect support for our campaign to retain the playing fields at Bridgefield. We collected almost 1,000 signatures and have established beyond any doubt that the people of Malahide oppose this appalling proposal to replace amenity with a car park.
St Sylvester’s club notes 29th Nov
Leinster Junior hurling semi-final St Sylvester’s 1-11 Greystones 0-9 The match was moved to the all weather pitch in Russell Park. We lead from start to finish with a comfortable 6 to 8 point lead from most of the game. An early goal in the second half left us with a 9 point lead. The Greystone’s second half subs added a bit of bite and a few scores but we responded well and kept the scores ticking over. This was a very good team performance and now we face Edenderry next Sunday in the final.
